Description
Kientzler Pinot Gris is a bone dry Alsace Pinot Gris from a Ribeauville grower with a strictly dry house style.
The Kientzler estate sits at Ribeauville, where the Vosges foothills give a run of steep, well drained sites and some of the lowest rainfall in France. This bottling comes from the estate's vineyards below the grand crus and shows the family's approach clearly: whole cluster pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation and no sugar left for effect. Pinot Gris is naturally high in sugar and low in acid, so fermenting it out completely takes healthy fruit and patience. Residual sugar is under one gram per litre, which is as dry as the variety gets in Alsace, and the wine is bottled under stelvin.
Dry and savoury with real texture, it suits roast chicken, pork, mushrooms and smoked fish; serve at around 10 degrees.
