Description
La Réserve De Léoville Barton, 2nd Vin is the second wine of a classified growth estate in Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux's Left Bank.
Chateau Leoville Barton was classified a second growth in 1855 and takes its name from the Barton family, who bought into the Leoville estate in 1826 and have held it ever since, one of the longest unbroken family tenures in the Medoc. The vineyards lie in Saint-Julien, the most consistent of the Left Bank communes, on deep gravel soils not far from the Gironde. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc. A second wine draws on younger vines and on lots not selected for the main label, and is raised in the same cellars with a lower proportion of new oak, so it becomes ready to drink a good deal sooner.
Serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, beef or hard cheese; it will keep comfortably for a decade.
