La Soufrandière Saint-Véran Climat La Bonnode 2018

La Bonnode is a Prissé climat that the Bret brothers bought recently in partnership with Dominique Lafon.

Saint-Véran covers a scatter of communes at the southern edge of the Mâconnais, around the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré, and its limestone slopes produce Chardonnay with more cut than the Mâcon appellations further north. La Soufrandière is the Bret family's estate at Vinzelles, farmed organically and biodynamically. This parcel of forty-year-old vines faces due east in a sheltered spot at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson, just below a small stand of forest, and the aspect means the fruit is picked in good acid balance. Pierre and Nathalie Desroches farmed the site organically from 2010, and it has since been certified biodynamic, so the conversion work was already done when the brothers took it on.

Drink now or over the next five years; serve at 10-12°C with grilled white fish, roast pork or a young Comté.
