Description
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine is a village Chardonnay from the Mâconnais, at the southern end of Burgundy.
Milly-Lamartine is one of the villages permitted to attach its own name to the Mâcon appellation, a step up from straight Mâcon-Villages, and it takes the second half of that name from Alphonse de Lamartine, the poet and statesman who grew up there. Dominique Lafon, whose family estate in Meursault is among the most admired in Burgundy, set up here in 1999 and farms the vineyards biodynamically, applying the same patient winemaking he uses on the Côte d'Or. The limestone hills of the Mâconnais run south towards the rock of Solutré, and Chardonnay has been grown on them for a very long time. His arrival, alongside that of a handful of other Côte d'Or names, changed how the region was regarded almost overnight.
Serve at around eleven degrees with roast chicken, soft cheese or grilled fish.
