Description
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Villages is a Chardonnay from southern Burgundy, made by a family far better known for its holdings in Meursault.
The Mâconnais runs south from Tournus towards Beaujolais, a landscape of limestone ridges and small stone villages that has long supplied Burgundy with its most approachable Chardonnay. Dominique Lafon, of Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, began buying vineyards here at the end of the 1990s, drawn by the quality of the sites and the price of the land. The holdings are farmed biodynamically, and the wine is made much as it would be further north, with whole bunch pressing, slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts and ageing on lees in tank and older oak. The Villages bottling draws on several parcels across the appellation.
A good match for roast chicken, grilled fish and soft cheeses; serve lightly chilled, at around 12 degrees.
