Description
Trifulau is a Nebbiolo grown at some of the highest, coolest elevations Piedmont has to offer and bottled under the Monferrato DOC.
Linnaea sources from sites high in the Apennine foothills, well above the altitudes most Piedmontese growers work at, where cool breezes push up from Liguria and winter snow is common. The soils are the region's classic limestone marls. This wine comes from a single dry-grown site in the Alta Langa hills, an area known for a softer, more perfumed side of Nebbiolo than the tannic, clay-driven styles further north. The fruit is picked by hand at first light, while fog still lies on the landscape, which keeps the bunches cool on the way to the cellar. Bunches were destemmed and fermented in small batches, then given 40 days on skins before racking to large, neutral 12-hectolitre botti for 18 months. The wine then rested a further 12 months in bottle before release, so it arrives without the hard edges young Nebbiolo often shows.
Ready now and good for another six or eight years; serve at 16-18°C with mushroom risotto, roast guinea fowl or a washed-rind cheese.
