Description
This is a cellar-aged museum release of Aleste, Sandrone's flagship Barolo from Cannubi Boschis, held back at the winery and released ten years after harvest.
Aleste is, and always has been, 100% Cannubi Boschis, the subzone near the northern end of the Cannubi hill directly across from the Sandrone cellars. The family farms 1.9 hectares there, in a small amphitheatre with south and southeast exposure that holds early-morning warmth, on sea-deposit soils of calcareous clay and sand that drain freely. The wines of this corner of Cannubi are noted for good body, elegance and more polished tannins than the hill's other sectors. Sibi et Paucis, roughly for the few and the favoured, is the family's museum programme: each year 10 to 15% of the Nebbiolo production is held back in the underground cellars under ideal ageing conditions and re-released closer to maturity, the Barolos ten years after the harvest. It was Luciano Sandrone's wish that his wines be released only when ready to drink. Each bottle carries a stamp on the label marking it as a museum release.
Approaching maturity now and with a long life ahead; decant and serve at 16-18°C with braised beef, roast game or aged Castelmagno.
