Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 1.5L MAGNUM 2018

Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne in magnum is a multi-commune Barolo blended from four parcels, in the classical style that predated the single-cru era.

Le Vigne is Sandrone’s return to the classical Barolo blend, drawn from four small parcels chosen because they differ from one another in altitude, exposure and soil, so that together they give a broad reading of the appellation in any given year. The communes are Barolo (Vignane), Serralunga d’Alba (Baudana), Novello (Merli) and Castiglione Falletto, the last in the renowned Villero cru, which Sandrone holds on a long-term lease and credits with adding depth and structure; the vines there average around thirty years. The estate is based at Barolo, where Luciano Sandrone made his first wines in the late 1970s. In the cellar the fruit was mostly destemmed with about a quarter whole bunches, fermentation began with wild yeasts in tank, maceration ran from ten to thirty days depending on the parcel, and maturation followed in mostly used 500-litre French oak casks, only twenty per cent new, for eighteen months.

The magnum is the format to cellar, and this will run for two decades or more; serve at 16–18°C with braised veal shin, hare ragù or aged Parmigiano.
