Description
Le Vigne is Sandrone's ode to the classic multi-commune Barolo blend that was once the norm in the appellation.
It is built from several small parcels across five communes: Barolo, Serralunga d'Alba, Novello, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d'Alba. The sites differ markedly in altitude, soil and exposure, and together they give a broad reading of the appellation in any given year. This is the second vintage to include Nebbiolo from the family's holding at Le Coste di Monforte, a Monforte d'Alba site Sandrone has farmed since 2000. As with Aleste, roughly 20 to 30% of the grapes ferment as whole bunches, and the destemmed portion retains a very high percentage of whole berries thanks to a modern destemmer. Macerations are managed carefully and gently, a little longer than in the past, with Luca Sandrone aiming to capture as much fruit purity as possible. Beside the fleshier Aleste, Le Vigne is the lifted, perfumed and more mineral of the pair.
Best given five years or more, or decanted well if opened young; serve at 16-18°C with braised veal, hare ragu or aged Parmigiano.
