Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 1.5L MAGNUM 2015

This is a cellar-aged museum release of Le Vigne, Sandrone's multi-commune Barolo, held back at the winery and released ten years after harvest.

Le Vigne is Sandrone's return to the classic Barolo-wide blend that was once the norm, drawn from small parcels in several communes that differ markedly in altitude, soil and exposure and together give a broad reading of the vintage across the appellation. Beside the fleshier, more immediately seductive Aleste, Le Vigne tends to be the lifted, perfumed and more mineral of the pair. Sibi et Paucis, roughly for the few and the favoured, is the family's museum programme: 10 to 15% of each year's Nebbiolo production is held back in the winery's underground cellars under ideal conditions and re-released closer to maturity, the Barolos ten years after the harvest. It was Luciano Sandrone's wish that his wines reach drinkers only when ready. Each museum bottle carries a stamp on the label to set it apart from the original release.

The magnum keeps it younger still and it has a long run ahead; decant and serve at 16-18°C with braised veal or hare ragu.
