Luciano Sandrone Dolcetto d'Alba 2023

Luciano Sandrone Dolcetto d'Alba is blended from around eleven parcels of old vines across Monforte d'Alba, Novello and Barolo.

Dolcetto d'Alba is usually treated as the Langhe's early-drinking red, deeply coloured, low in acid and soft in tannin, and it is rarely given the attention Sandrone applies here. The purity, silky texture and fine tannins of this bottling come from perfectly ripe fruit off top sites, several of them high enough to add freshness to the layers of fruit. From estate vineyards in Monforte d'Alba the estate draws on Castelletto and Cascina Pe Mol; in Novello there is Rocche di San Nicola and the whitish marls of Ravera, whose easterly exposure contributes perfume and aromatic complexity; and from the commune of Barolo come Rivassi and Crosia. Vine age averages more than 50 years. Typically eleven parcels make the blend, with anything that does not make the grade sold off. Each is vinified separately before blending, and the wines age in tank.

Drink over the next four to five years, and do not be afraid to serve it a touch cool. Serve at 16-18°C with charcuterie, pizza or roast pork.
