Mader Riesling 2023

Mader Riesling is a dry Alsace Riesling that includes a portion of fruit from the Rosacker Grand Cru.

Hunawihr sits at the foot of Rosacker, the Grand Cru best known as the home of Clos Sainte Hune, and Jean-Luc Mader's holding lets him fold a share of Grand Cru fruit into the estate's straight Riesling. The soils are dolomitic limestone over clay, firm and free draining, and the whole property is farmed organically. Bunches are pressed whole, the juice settled and fermented slowly in stainless steel with indigenous yeast, and the wine held on fine lees through the winter for texture. It is finished dry at 1.1 grams per litre of residual sugar and bottled under screwcap, which suits its taut, citrus driven cut.

Dry, firm and lemony, it is a natural match for oysters, trout and choucroute garnie; serve at 10 degrees.
