Mader Riesling Burgweg 2023

Mader Riesling Burgweg is a single site Alsace Riesling from a lieu-dit on the hillside behind Ribeauville.

Burgweg lies on the slope above Ribeauville, close to the band of Grand Crus that rises behind the town, planted on stony marl and limestone that drains freely and keeps yields modest. Jean-Luc Mader farms the parcel organically from the family cellar at Hunawihr and bottles it as a single site wine, kept separate from the estate Riesling. Fruit is whole bunch pressed, fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel and left on fine lees to gain texture, with no oak at any point. Residual sugar of 0.8 grams per litre leaves the wine emphatically dry, with the salty, stony grip that the sites around Ribeauville are known for.

Dry, tight and mineral, it suits shellfish, river fish and Alsace charcuterie; serve at 10 degrees.
