Description
Maison C. Thiriet Bourgogne Aligoté Du Jardin blends old-vine Aligoté Doré near Pommard with a 90-year-old parcel at Corgoloin.
Aligoté has spent most of the past century as Burgundy's afterthought, but old plantings of the superior Aligoté Doré selection are increasingly sought out, and the two sites here are unusually venerable. Camille Thiriet refers to the Corgoloin parcel as her garden, which is where the cuvée takes its name. Yields from vines of that age are very small, and that is part of the reason for the wine's aromatic concentration. The fruit from both plots is pressed together in a vertical press and raised in old oak, with 20 per cent new, for nine months. A small but decisive portion of skin contact adds to the texture. The wine finishes with the powdery grip and length that Aligoté can deliver when the vine age is there.
Drinking now and holding for three to five years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, grilled sardines or a gougère.
