Description
Maison C. Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Aux Montagnes was the cuvée that launched the house, from a four-hectare parcel below the Comblanchien quarry.
Aux Montagnes lies at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, directly beneath the Comblanchien château and its limestone quarry. The parcel sits on the belly of the slope at 260 metres, the elevation at which the premier crus of the Côte de Nuits usually sit, with only twenty-five centimetres of clay-limestone before the roots reach bedrock. The clay is markedly red and high in iron. Camille Thiriet works with vines planted in the 1970s that once formed part of Nicolas Potel’s holdings, and this was the first wine she vinified when she started out in 2016. She uses a lower proportion of whole bunches here, since the stems contribute a good deal of tannin on this site. The result is a fleshier, more openly hedonistic style of red Burgundy that keeps a fine-boned frame and considerable density.
Generous young and worth keeping for up to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, coq au vin or a plate of charcuterie.
