Maison C. Thiriet Coteaux Bourguignons Rosay 2022

Rosay is Camille Thiriet's Coteaux Bourguignons rosé, made from old-vine Gamay grown at Corgoloin in the Côte de Nuits.

Coteaux Bourguignons is the regional appellation that allows Gamay to be bottled alongside Pinot Noir across Burgundy, and it is where growers in the Côte d'Or place fruit from older Gamay plantings that predate the current appellation map. Maison C. Thiriet works with hand-picked fruit from Corgoloin, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits where the slope runs into the Comblanchien limestone quarries. The grapes are pressed slowly and the juice ferments spontaneously in a combination of barrel and tank, which gives the wine a creamy middle without heavy oak character. The house style favours red fruit and freshness over colour, and the spelling Rosay is a nod to the older French form. It finishes zesty and taut.

Drink young while the fruit is at its best; serve at 8 to 10°C with charcuterie, grilled prawns or a summer salad.
