Description

Maison C. Thiriet Coteaux Bourguignons Rosay is a rosé of old-vine Gamay from Corgoloin, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits.

Coteaux Bourguignons is Burgundy's most flexible appellation, and one of the few places in the Côte d'Or where Gamay can be bottled under its own name. Corgoloin sits at the far southern end of the Côte de Nuits, better known for its marble quarries than its wine, and pockets of old Gamay survive there on stony limestone ground. Camille and John Thiriet, who established their house in the village in 2016, hand-pick this fruit and press it slowly before a spontaneous fermentation split between barrel and tank — an unusually careful regime for a rosé, and the reason this one has more substance than the category usually offers. The archaic spelling Rosay is a nod to the old Burgundian term for wines of this colour.

Drink over the next two years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled prawns, charcuterie or a summer vegetable tart.
