Description

Massolino Barolo, first made in 1911, is a classic Serralunga d'Alba bottling assembled from seven hectares of the commune's best land, offered here in a half bottle.

Serralunga d'Alba runs along the eastern ridge of the Barolo zone and is known for the most structured, slow-maturing Nebbiolo in the appellation, thanks to its compact, limestone-rich Lequio marls. Massolino draws this wine from sites dotted around the town itself, the most important being Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne; Le Turne borders Margheria and Collareto lies beside Vigna Rionda. This release also includes a little fruit from the estate's Parussi cru and some declassified Vigna Rionda. Vine age ranges from 10 to 55 years. Half the wine was fermented in large wooden cask and half in concrete, and the final blend matured up to 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. It has finesse, perfume and fine tannin alongside genuine structure.

Approachable with air but worth five to ten years; the half bottle matures faster, so drink it earlier. Serve at 16-18C with braised beef, agnolotti or Castelmagno.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
