Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Gris 2024

Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Gris is a rich, textural white from one of Central Otago's warmest and best-known sub-regions.

The winery grew out of a handshake agreement in the early 1990s between the owners of four Bannockburn vineyards, and it made its first vintage in 1998 beneath the rugged range that gives it its name. Bannockburn sits on the southern side of the Kawarau River in the Cromwell Basin, a dry, sunny pocket of Central Otago with low rainfall and wide swings between day and night temperatures. That climate lets Pinot Gris ripen fully while keeping its fresh acidity. Winemaker Greg Lane aims for a textural style, with generous weight balanced by the region's natural freshness.

Serve well chilled with pork belly, Thai green curry, roast chicken or soft washed-rind cheeses. Its weight also makes it a good match for richer seafood such as crayfish.
