Description
Nicole Lamarche Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits comes from a single east-facing parcel planted in 1979 in the hills above Vosne-Romanée.
The Hautes Côtes de Nuits sits behind and above the main escarpment of the Côte, at greater altitude and on cooler, more exposed ground, which gives lighter, brighter Pinot Noir than the villages below. Lamarche holds 1.5 hectares in the hamlet of Concœur, on limestone-rich soils facing due east, so the vines catch the morning sun and the fruit ripens without excess. Nicole Lamarche has run the family estate at Vosne-Romanée since 2007 and treats this wine with the same care as the grander cuvées, using only a light touch of oak so the red-fruited, racy character of the site stays in the foreground. It remains one of the better-value bottles in the range.
Ready on release and worth drinking over the next four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C, or lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
