Description
Nicole Lamarche Bourgogne Rouge is drawn from just under a hectare of forty-year-old vines on the flat land below the main road at Vosne-Romanée.
Regional Bourgogne from the Côte de Nuits is generally planted east of the RN74, on deeper and more fertile soils than the slope above, and the quality of what comes out of it depends almost entirely on vine age and on how carefully it is handled. Lamarche's 0.98 hectares are spread across several small plots and average more than forty years, and the wine is made in the same cellar and the same unhurried way as the domaine's premiers and grands crus, with restrained extraction and oak kept well in the background. Nicole Lamarche has run the estate since 2007. The result is a pure, lifted, raspberry-scented Pinot Noir that reads above its classification.
Drinking well on release and good for three to five years. Serve at 16-18°C, or a touch cooler, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
