Description
This is the regional Pinot Noir of Nicole Lamarche, drawn from a single hectare of mature vines on the gentler ground below the main road at Vosne-Romanée.
Bourgogne Rouge is the broadest of the region's red appellations, so the wines stand or fall on where the fruit grows and who makes it. Nicole Lamarche took charge of the family domaine in Vosne-Romanée and has moved it steadily towards lighter extraction, whole-bunch work where the fruit allows and restrained use of oak. The vines for this cuvée are spread across 0.98 hectares and average more than 40 years of age, which brings depth the appellation rarely shows. The soils are the familiar clay and limestone of the Côte de Nuits, and the winemaking is deliberately unhurried, giving a lacy, red-berried Pinot Noir with the perfume of its village.
Approachable on release and worth keeping five years. Try it with roast chicken, mushroom risotto or a charcuterie plate at 16°C.
