Description
Nicole Lamarche Gevrey-Chambertin is a single-barrel négociant wine from an eighty-year-old vineyard lying metres from Mazoyères-Chambertin.
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest of the Côte de Nuits communes and the source of its most structured wines, though the character of a village bottling depends heavily on where the vines sit. This parcel lies on the left as you enter the village from Morey-Saint-Denis, in a lieu-dit called Aus Echézeaux, close to the Grand Cru band. It was planted by the grower's grandfather and is now eighty years old; Nicole Lamarche has worked with the same grower for three vintages. The 2022 was cropped at half the legal maximum yield. She vinified the wine in amphora and old oak, an approach that keeps the fruit clear and the tannins fine rather than adding weight, and only a single barrel was made.
Approachable from three years and good for eight or ten, it suits roast beef, duck or a mature washed-rind cheese. Serve at 16 to 18°C.
