Nicole Lamarche Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cras 2023

Nicole Lamarche Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cras comes from vines planted in 1979 at the Vosne end of the commune.

Nuits-Saint-Georges stretches for several kilometres and changes character along the way. Les Cras, also written Aux Cras, sits at the northern end towards Vosne, tucked between Aux Boudots and Les Murgers, and it is one of the more mineral sites in the appellation. Nicole Lamarche has produced this cuvée for some time, and it shows the balance the northern end offers: the finesse and fine tannins associated with Vosne-Romanée alongside the earthier, firmer character of Nuits. The vines date from 1979, so they are approaching fifty years of age, and yields are correspondingly modest. Her handling is gentle throughout, with restrained extraction and unobtrusive oak, and the wine turns out to be Nuits-Saint-Georges in its most elegant guise, with dark berry fruit, spice and savoury earth over silky tannins.

Best from five years and will hold twelve or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game or mushroom dishes.
