Description
Nicole Lamarche Nuits-Saint-Georges is one of two small négociant cuvées made by the domaine, from organically farmed vines on the Vosne side of the commune.
Nuits-Saint-Georges is the southernmost commune of the Côte de Nuits and its northern end, closest to Vosne-Romanée, tends to give the more perfumed and less overtly sturdy wines of the appellation. The fruit here comes from Les Herbues and Aux Tuyaux, just off the D974 before the road reaches Vosne, where the soils carry a good deal of clay and the vines are around forty years old. Nicole Lamarche bought the fruit rather than farming it, working with organic growers, and vinified it at the domaine in her usual manner. Roughly a third of the cuvée was raised in her bespoke amphorae, decorated vessels made for her by an Italian artist, with the balance in barrel. She describes the result as having the identity of Nuits with the finesse of Vosne.
Drinking from three or four years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, duck confit or a plate of hard cheese.
