Description
Nicole Lamarche Rully 1er Cru Marrissou Blanc comes from the most northerly of Rully's Premier Cru vineyards.
Rully is the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and makes mostly white wine on limestone slopes that are, in geological terms, a continuation of the Côte de Beaune. Marrissou is the most northerly of its Premier Crus and also one of the best. Lamarche's source lies under the Montagne de Remenot at between 150 and 200 metres, where the bedrock is Oxfordian limestone beneath brown clay and a stony topsoil. Given her light touch with Pinot Noir it is no great surprise that the same approach suits Chardonnay. Because the plot already gives a balance of fruit richness and minerality, she works with very lightly toasted barrels and does very little lees stirring, so the natural character of the site is left to carry the wine. The result is elegant and precise.
Drinking well now and good for five or six years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a goat's cheese tart.
