Description
Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée Margot is a regional red Burgundy from a Puligny-Montrachet house far better known for its white wines.
Olivier Leflaive founded his maison in Puligny-Montrachet in 1984, having grown up inside one of the village's most celebrated winemaking families, and built its reputation on the white wines of the Côte de Beaune. Reds have always been the smaller part of the range, though they are made with the same attention. Cuvée Margot sits at the regional Bourgogne level, which permits Pinot Noir grown anywhere within the delimited vineyards of Burgundy and allows the house to draw on several parcels rather than depend on one. That flexibility is the point of the appellation, and for many drinkers the regional tier remains the sanest way into a region where village names carry a heavy premium.
A versatile match for roast chicken, charcuterie or mushroom dishes, and best served a little below room temperature, at around 15 to 16 degrees.
