Description
Olivier Leflaive Puligny Montrachet is a classic Côte de Beaune Chardonnay, offered here in a half bottle.
Several separate parcels across the village of Puligny-Montrachet are blended for this cuvée, which the producer describes as delicate and precise. Olivier Leflaive started the business in the mid-1980s, and the team still works from cellars in Puligny, combining its own holdings with grapes from trusted local growers. Hand-picked Chardonnay is whole-bunch pressed and fermented in barrel, followed by lees ageing in oak and a short spell in tank so the wine goes to bottle settled and clear. New oak is kept in check so the site speaks first.
A half bottle is handy for a dinner for two or as a starter wine before a red. Chill it to around 10 to 12 degrees and pour it with oysters, seared scallops, sashimi or a soft cheese. Smaller bottles mature a little faster, so enjoy it over the next few years.
