Description
P'tit Martin is the young-vine Côtes du Rhône from Oratoire Saint Martin, whose vineyards sit on the doorstep of Rasteau.
The Alary family has farmed at Cairanne since the eighteenth century and works its land biodynamically. The fruit for this wine comes from the estate's younger plantings, most of them only about 300 metres from the commune boundary with Rasteau, so the soils and exposure are much the same as those behind the domaine's more serious cuvées. The blend is split roughly between Grenache and Syrah, with small amounts of Counoise and Vaccarèse filling out the aromatics; Vaccarèse in particular is an old Rhône variety few growers still bother with. Despite the young vines, the fruit is picked at the low yields the domaine applies across the board, which is what gives a wine at this price its punch and grip.
Drink over the next three to five years; serve at 16-18°C with grilled sausages, lamb kebabs or a ratatouille.
