Ornellaia di Ornellaia 'La Determinazione' Bolgheri Superiore Rosso is the estate's flagship Bolgheri Superiore, carrying the one word name given to its harvest under the Vendemmia d'Artista series.

Bolgheri sits on the Tuscan coast, an area with little fine wine history before the 1970s, when growers found that its gravel soils and sea breezes suited Bordeaux varieties better than Sangiovese. Ornellaia was established there in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori and is now owned by Marchesi Frescobaldi. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are fermented parcel by parcel, then matured for around eighteen months in French oak barriques before a further rest in bottle. Since the 2006 harvest each vintage has also been given a one word character and handed to a contemporary artist, who interprets it on limited edition labels and large formats.

Decant an hour ahead and serve at about 18 degrees with roast beef, game or aged pecorino; this is a wine built to reward fifteen to twenty years in a cool cellar.
