Description
Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero DOCG is drawn from the great vineyard of Verduno, at the northern tip of the Barolo zone.
Monvigliero forms a wide, south-facing amphitheatre looking out over the Tanaro valley, and it is by common consent the finest site in Verduno, a commune whose wines are prized for their perfume and poise rather than sheer power. Traditional long macerations and large oak have long been the local approach here. Paolo Scavino, based across the valley at Castiglione Falletto, has been a family estate since 1921, with Enrico Scavino at the helm since the 1950s and his daughters Enrica and Elisa working with him. The fruit is fermented with a lengthy maceration and aged in French oak.
Decant and serve at around 18 degrees with roast veal, guinea fowl or a plate of tajarin with butter and truffle. It repays a generous decant and will continue to develop in bottle for many years.
