Piero Busso Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Piero Busso Langhe Nebbiolo is declassified Nebbiolo drawn from vines within three well-known Barbaresco crus at Neive.

Langhe Nebbiolo is the appellation that allows Barbaresco and Barolo growers to bottle younger vines and lighter parcels under their own name, and it is often the clearest window onto a producer’s style. Piero Busso is a small family estate at Neive, in the eastern part of Barbaresco, run today with his children Emanuela and Pierguido. The fruit here comes from ten- to fifteen-year-old vines in the Neive crus of Balluri, Albesani and Gallina, all on the calcareous marls that give the commune its perfume. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, after which the wine spent twelve months in large oak botti and was bottled unfiltered. The handling is deliberately old-school: pale in colour, medium in weight and with the powdery tannins that mark traditional Nebbiolo rather than a darker, more extracted style.

Ready on release and good for five to eight years; serve at 16–18°C with veal ragù, roast duck or a plate of salumi.
