Pol Roger Vintage Gift Box 2018

Pol Roger Vintage Gift Box is a vintage champagne from one of the last independent family houses in Épernay, presented in its own box.

Pol Roger was founded in 1849 by a young man of that name, and the family still owns and runs the house; the surname was formally changed to Pol-Roger by decree in 1900. Two things set the house apart: cellars cut unusually deep into the chalk beneath Épernay, among the coldest in Champagne, and an insistence on riddling every bottle by hand rather than by machine. A vintage is declared only in years the family judges worthy of it. The wine blends Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from grand and premier cru villages and is aged on its lees in those cold cellars for far longer than the appellation requires.

Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass rather than a flute, with shellfish, roast poultry or a mature hard cheese.
