Description
Pooley Wines Gewürztraminer is a cool-climate Tasmanian take on the aromatic grape of Alsace.
Pooley Wines is a family estate in the Coal River Valley near Richmond, north east of Hobart, where the Pooley family planted their first vines in the mid 1980s and a third generation now runs the business, with Anna Pooley making the wines. The Coal River Valley sits in the rain shadow of the hills around Hobart, making it one of the driest and sunniest corners of Tasmania, yet the island's cool maritime climate keeps ripening slow and acidity high. Gewürztraminer is a pink-skinned aromatic variety that needs a cool climate to keep its freshness, and Tasmania's slow ripening season lets it build perfume and texture without becoming heavy. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel to preserve varietal character, and the wine is bottled under screwcap.
Rounded and aromatic, it suits Asian dishes with gentle spice, pâté and washed-rind cheeses; serve chilled at around 9 degrees.
