Description
Prunotto Barolo 'Bussia' DOCG is a single-cru Barolo from Monforte d'Alba, drawn from one of the most historically celebrated vineyards in the Langhe.
Bussia is a large and much admired cru on the slopes of Monforte d'Alba, where calcareous marl soils suit Nebbiolo's slow, late ripening. Prunotto began in 1904 as a growers' co-operative in Alba and took the family name in 1923, when Alfredo Prunotto took it over; from the 1950s Beppe Colla built its reputation as one of the first houses in Piedmont to bottle single vineyards under their own names, an idea now taken for granted across the region. The Antinori family became involved at the end of the 1980s and has continued that vineyard by vineyard approach. Nebbiolo is fermented on skins over an extended maceration and matured in oak, then held in bottle before release.
A classic partner for braised beef, game and aged Piedmontese cheeses; serve at around 18°C, and decant young bottles or give the wine a decade in the cellar.
