Description
Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered is a late bottled vintage port made only from the estate's own fruit and bottled without filtration.
Quinta do Noval created the first late bottled vintage in 1958, and the category has been associated with the house ever since. An LBV comes from a single year but is kept longer in wood than a vintage port before bottling. Noval's is handled in the cellar exactly as its vintage wine is, using only the noble varieties grown on the quinta: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão. The difference is time in cask, four and sometimes five years in wooden vats against roughly two for a vintage port. Because it goes into bottle unfiltered, it keeps the structure and grip that a filtered commercial LBV loses, and it will throw a deposit as it ages. In effect this is Noval's baby vintage, and the house has a long record in the style.
It can be drunk on release but will improve for a decade; decant it off its sediment and serve at 16-18°C with blue cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
