Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2020

Quinta do Noval Vintage Port is a single-quinta declaration representing about seven per cent of the estate's production.

Quinta do Noval is one of the few port houses whose vintage wine is a single-quinta bottling, drawn entirely from its own terraced vineyards on the slopes above the Cavadinha, a tributary of the Douro. The grapes pass a strict selection, and blending proportions shift each year according to which varieties performed best; this release is built on Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz, with very little Touriga Franca. The fruit was foot-trodden in temperature-controlled granite lagares, the traditional method that extracts colour and tannin gently, and fermentation was arrested with grape spirit, leaving 115 grams per litre of residual sugar. The wine then spent eighteen months in old wooden vats before bottling in May 2022. It marks the tenth consecutive port declaration at Noval.

It needs many years yet, and decanting off its crust whenever it is opened; serve at 16-18°C with Stilton, walnuts or dark chocolate.
