Description
Récolte du Domaine Olivier Leflaive Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc is a white Burgundy from an enclosed premier cru parcel in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Chassagne-Montrachet sits at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and shares the Montrachet vineyard itself with neighbouring Puligny. For much of its history it was a red wine village; Chardonnay only came to dominate in the twentieth century, planted on the higher, stonier limestone slopes that suit it best. The commune now has more than fifty premier cru climats, many of them very small and walled, a legacy of centuries of inheritance and division. Olivier Leflaive founded his house at Puligny-Montrachet in 1984, initially as a négociant, and the Récolte du Domaine designation marks the wines grown on the family's own vineyards and picked by its own team.
Serve at around 12 degrees with white fish, poultry in a cream sauce or a soft washed-rind cheese. A few years in bottle will do it no harm.
