Description

Reichsrat von Buhl Pfalz Riesling Trocken is the dry entry wine from one of the historic estates of the Mittelhaardt.

Von Buhl is based at Deidesheim, in the run of villages that produces the Pfalz's most serious Riesling. This cuvée is drawn from the estate's sandstone-rich vineyards around Deidesheim, Forst and Ruppertsberg, all of which are certified organic. Mathieu Kauffmann, the Alsatian who ran the cellar from 2013 and brought a Champagne-trained approach to the estate, parted ways with the domain before the 2019 harvest; his successor is the South Tyrolean Gregor Hofer, who came from Von Winning nearby. In the cellar most of the juice ferments naturally in tank, with a portion of parcels fermented in the estate's oval Doppelstück oak casks. The house style is dry in the full Pfalz sense, with the weight the sandstone soils give and a firm line of acidity rather than any residual sweetness.

Ready now and good for four or five years. Pairs with sashimi, pork schnitzel or lightly spiced Asian dishes. Serve at 10-12°C.
