Reichsrat von Buhl Pfalz Riesling Trocken 2022

Reichsrat von Buhl Pfalz Riesling Trocken is the estate's entry dry Riesling, drawn from certified organic vineyards on Pfalz sandstone.

Von Buhl is one of the historic estates of the Mittelhaardt, with holdings around the villages of Deidesheim, Forst and Ruppertsberg, where sandstone-rich soils and a relatively warm, dry climate give Riesling both ripeness and grip. All the vineyards are certified organic. In the cellar most of the juice ferments naturally in tank, with some parcels fermented in the estate's large oval doppelstück casks. Even at this level the wine is given an extended élevage of six months on gross lees, there is no pumping, and sulphur additions are kept very low. That handling builds a fuller, more textured palate than the price would suggest, while the sandstone shows through as a rocky, mouth-watering line of citrus-edged acidity and a finish that is close to bone dry.

Drink it over the next four or five years with schnitzel, grilled fish or Asian dishes with a little chilli. Serve at 10–12°C.
