Réserve Mont-Redon Gigondas 2022

Reserve Mont-Redon Gigondas is a cru red from the Dentelles de Montmirail, bottled under the second label of Chateau Mont-Redon.

Gigondas takes its vineyards from the limestone scree and clay that spill down from the jagged Dentelles de Montmirail, with the best sites lying high enough that cool nights preserve freshness in what is otherwise a hot corner of the southern Rhone. The appellation is red and rose only and requires Grenache to lead, with Syrah and Mourvedre the usual partners. The Reserve label carries the wines Chateau Mont-Redon makes outside its home appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Grenache forms the base of this blend with Syrah and Mourvedre for structure, and ageing is in large wood and tank rather than new barrique, keeping the emphasis on the cru's firm, stony character.

Firm and full without excess weight, it suits roast lamb, game and rich stews; serve at around 17 degrees.
