Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken in magnum is the estate’s dry village blend, drawn from its higher sites around Kiedrich.

Weingut Robert Weil at Kiedrich is among the Rheingau’s benchmark estates, and this cuvée sits at the foot of a range that climbs through Erste Lage Turmberg to the Grosse Lage of Gräfenberg. It blends fruit from Weil’s high-altitude parcels scattered around the village, including the Sandgrub vineyard and a good proportion from Wasseros, a steep, south-west-facing site that abuts the Gräfenberg vines. The soils across these sites are typically stony, fragmented phyllite laced with loess and loam, which gives a dry Riesling with more mineral tension than its price level would suggest. At this tier the wine is vinified in stainless steel, with under five per cent fermented in large oak to add a little breadth without altering the clean, dry line the estate is after.

Drinking now and good for five to eight years, longer in magnum; serve at 10–12°C with pork schnitzel, grilled fish or Asian-spiced chicken.
