Salvard Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Salvard Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc is the Butterfly label from Domaine du Salvard in Cheverny, upstream from Sancerre.

Cheverny sits in the Loir-et-Cher, upstream of Touraine and well upstream of Sancerre, and remains one of the better-value corners of the Loire for Sauvignon Blanc. Domaine du Salvard has been a standard-bearer there since Maurice Delaille bought the property in 1900, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the estate. The fruit for this bottling grows on mature vines in the sandy clay soils around Fougères-sur-Bièvre, and it is entirely Sauvignon Blanc, raised on its lees with no oak at any point and bottled as Val de Loire rather than under the Cheverny appellation. Lees ageing gives it a little breadth, while the sandy soils keep the frame narrow and the acidity firm. It is sealed under screwcap.

Drink over the next two years. Serve at 10-12°C with goat’s cheese, asparagus or grilled whiting.
