Description
Salvard Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc is an unoaked Sauvignon from a Cheverny family estate upstream of the better-known Sancerre.
Cheverny sits in the Loir-et-Cher, east of Tours and well upstream of Sancerre, and its best whites are among the more useful buys in the Loire. Domaine du Salvard has been in the same family since Maurice Delaille bought the property in 1900, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the estate. The fruit for this cuvée comes from mature vines on the sandy clay soils of Fougères-sur-Bièvre. It is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fermented cool and raised on its lees in tank without any oak, then bottled under screwcap. The wine carries the broader Val de Loire appellation rather than Cheverny, but the sourcing and the making are the same: citrus-driven, taut and finished with a chalky edge.
Best drunk within two years of release, with oysters, goat's cheese or a herb salad. Serve at 10-12°C.
