Description
Santa Cristina Campogrande Orvieto Classico DOC is a white from the hills around the cathedral city of Orvieto, in Umbria.
Orvieto is one of the oldest white wine names in Italy, grown on volcanic tufa and clay, and was historically a sweeter wine kept in cellars cut into the rock beneath the town. The Classico zone covers the traditional heart of the area, closest to the city. The blend is led by Procanico, the local strain of Trebbiano, with Grechetto lending body and substance. Santa Cristina is the everyday range of the Antinori family, a Florentine house involved in the wine trade since 1385, and the wines in it are made in a straightforward modern way, pressed gently and fermented cool in stainless steel. Most Orvieto today is dry, though an off-dry style still exists.
Serve well chilled as an aperitif, or with antipasti, salads, and simply grilled fish or shellfish.
