Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne Rouge 2021

Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne Rouge is blended from parcels in Marsannay and the Hautes-Côtes covering just over one hectare in total.

Marsannay sits at the northern gate of the Côte de Nuits, and Sylvain Pataille has been its most articulate advocate since founding his domaine there, having trained as an oenologist before turning to growing. His regional red is drawn from a spread of small parcels in Marsannay and the Hautes-Côtes, including one planted in 1956, so old vines make up a good share of the blend. Each parcel is vinified separately, with different maceration styles depending on the fruit, before the final assemblage, which typically includes around 30% whole bunches. The wine ages in barrel for a year and sees no sulphur until bottling. Rajat Parr has described it as one of the best Bourgogne Rouge bottlings in Burgundy, and it is made with the same care as the domaine's Marsannay cuvées.

Enjoyable on release and good for four to six years; serve with charcuterie, roast chicken or mushroom dishes at 16-18°C.
