Sylvain Pataille Marsannay En Clémengeots is a village red from a gently sloping, sunny site on the northern boundary of Couchey.

Marsannay is the northernmost commune of the Côte de Nuits and the only one entitled to make red, white and rosé, and Sylvain Pataille has done as much as anyone to raise its standing. His vines in this terroir were planted in 1951, 1989 and 2006. The soils are shallow and rich in red clay over a limestone known as Ostrea acuminata, named for the sickle oyster fossils it contains. About half the blend, the fruit from the oldest vines, ferments as whole bunches while the younger-vine fruit is destemmed. The wine was raised for twenty-four months in mainly used oak and bottled unfiltered. The result is a finer, prettier reading of Marsannay than the more structured Clos du Roy or the powerful Les Grasses Têtes.

Drinking well from release and worth five to eight years; serve at 16–18°C with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a soft washed-rind cheese.
