Tenuta Luce 2020

Tenuta Luce is a Tuscan red that brought Merlot together with Sangiovese in Montalcino, a place that had until then admitted only one grape.

Luce was created in 1995 as a joint venture between Vittorio Frescobaldi, of the Florentine family that has made wine since the fourteenth century, and Robert Mondavi of California. The idea was to blend Sangiovese, the grape of Montalcino, with Merlot, which had no history there, and to bottle the result outside the Brunello rules. The estate lies on the southern side of the Montalcino hill, on clay and the crumbling schist known in Tuscany as galestro, across a range of altitudes. The two varieties are picked and vinified separately before blending and ageing in French oak. Frescobaldi took full ownership in the mid 2000s. The venture was among the most watched Italian and Californian collaborations of the 1990s.

Decant it and serve at cool room temperature with roast or grilled red meat, game and aged hard cheeses.
