Description
Terroir al Límit Priorat Les Tosses is a two-hectare, ninety-year-old Cariñena vineyard at 650 metres, one of the estate's two pinnacle bottlings.
Priorat is a small, steep appellation in inland Catalonia defined by llicorella, the black slate that forces vines to root deeply and holds heat through the growing season. Terroir al Límit works at the cooler, higher edge of the region and describes Les Tosses and Les Manyes as its vi d'altura, the estate's equivalent of grand cru, one seen through Cariñena and the other through Garnatxa. Les Tosses sits on a stony ridge of deep black slate northeast of the village of Torroja, at an altitude few ancient vineyards in Priorat reach. The bush vines are more than ninety years old, predominantly Cariñena with a small share of Garnatxa, planted east-facing at 6,605 plants per hectare and tended vine by vine.
A wine that needs time and rewards a decade or more in the cellar; decant if opening early. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game or a dish of grilled mushrooms.
