Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres Montsant Brisat is a partly skin-fermented white from Capçanes, bottled at 11.5 per cent alcohol.
Montsant wraps around Priorat and shares much of its upland character, but its rules differ in one useful respect: whites may be harvested at 11.5 per cent potential alcohol, which allows picking earlier than Priorat permits, and this bottling finished at exactly that figure. Terroir Sense Fronteres is the Montsant project of Huber and Peceric, working with vines around the village of Capçanes. The blend is 75 per cent Grenache Blanc to 25 per cent Macabeo, from vines of fifteen to thirty-five years grown between 300 and 350 metres on the sandy clay soils known locally as panal. Brisat is Catalan for a wine fermented on skins: half the grapes were direct-pressed and half macerated for five to seven days, a lighter touch than earlier releases, as the pair now look for finesse and expression of site rather than texture for its own sake. Fermentation was with wild yeasts, followed by six months on lees in tank, and the wine was bottled unfiltered.
Drink over the next three or four years; serve at 11-12°C with grilled sardines, chickpeas with salt cod or a soft goat's cheese.
